Magic Mushroom Coffee

magic mushroom coffee

Have you heard of mushroom coffee? It is the latest in the superfood health craze, and it actually sounds pretty amazing. There are many mushrooms out there that carry health benefits like Chaga or Lion’s Mane. Why stop there? Magic mushroom tea is already extremely popular; why not kick it up a notch and throw some more caffeine in there?

Styles of Magic Mushroom Coffee

There are a couple of methods in the mushroom coffee world. The first is a brewing method that involves adding the mushrooms into the coffee grounds and proceeding as usual, preferably with a French press. But, with psychedelic mushrooms, the less we lose, the better. Therefore, a blending method may be a better choice. With this method, you can brew a cup of your favourite, most robust coffee and blend in ground shroom powder.

Butter or ghee is included to accentuate the coffee flavour and the subtle mushroom notes. This is a growing craze in the artisanal coffee realm, along with salt to highlight the characteristics of a given coffee bean or brand. This also prevents the need for milk or cream, often a source of fat, and the accompanying lactose that may inhibit a trip, akin to sugar.

To be cautious, mixing any two drugs together comes with its own set of risks. However, it’s a safe assumption that most people wake up with at least one cup of coffee, if not several. Though, if you are overly susceptible to the effects of caffeine, then this may not be the option for you. Alternatively, a decaf coffee blend would work just as well.

Dosage: An “average” dosage of dried P. cubensis is 1-2g, “intermediate” is 2-3.5g, “experienced” dose would be 3.5-5g. Your personal experience and research will help you decide your dose.

Magic Mushroom Coffee

Portions: 1 | Cooking time: 6 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1-5 grams magic mushrooms, ground (see dosage)
  • 1 cup of preferred coffee
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter or ghee

Directions

  1. Brew coffee as normal; a French press is always ideal, but not necessary.
  2. Grind mushrooms as fine as possible. A coffee grinder works best, but you would want to wash it very well after to limit any remaining residue for a future non-infused cup.
  3. Add all of the ingredients to the blender and mix.
  4. Enjoy a great cup of coffee – and a trip with it.

Always remember to use safe practices when using any drugs, drink extra water, and make sure to be in a safe setting!
